A Visit from Senator King
As part of our ongoing museum advocacy efforts, we maintain regular contact with our elected officials and keep them appraised of the great work underway at the Abbe. In August, we were treated to a site visit by Senator Angus King and staff members Chris Rector and Adam Lachman. We toured both museum locations after a fruitful discussion about the Abbe’s decolonization efforts and our strategic plan, as well as an in-depth discussion about our plans for the Abbe Museum Indian Market (AMIM) scheduled to launch in May 2018. Of particular interest is the positive economic impact AMIM will have on the state and the tribal communities. Senator King is also highly supportive, along with Senator Susan Collins’ office, of our pursuit of National Park Service Affiliation. This will be the focus of our collaborative efforts moving forward.
